This year of pep band, I wasn't very committed. I would only play at the required and never at the optional ones. Sometimes it gets hard for me because when I had to start setting up my instrument was the same time I was cheering. It was hard going back and forth. A lot of the time before the games, I would help some people with the fight song routine and floor cheers we were going to do that game. Grade wise, I do think I should get an A. Even though I wasn't there for the optional games, I still was there for the required games. I only missed one required game, but I made it up by playing at an optional one. I also think I deserve an A because instead of trying to help some cheerleaders with some of the cheers, I went to go do pep band. One more reason I deserve an A is because the one optional game I did go too, not a lot of people were there and I think it helped out my section a little bit and made it stronger.
I do think that pep band is an important element of Newark Band. I think this for many reasons. One reason is because it helps us grow stronger. We come into band freshman year expecting just concert music, but we learn more than just that. A lot of the songs, I had a hard time with and still do. This only makes us better as a whole. We expand our ranges and go above and beyond. Another reason is because it brings us closer as a whole. We are so compacted on the stage and it gives us time to talk before we play, and since we are so close together, it makes that easy.
My top 3 songs we play have to be Let's Go Band, All I Want For Christmas, and Frozen. I really like Let's Go Band because it gets the crowd pumped up before the game. I love playing All I Want because we also played it for one of our Christmas concerts and it just became so easy for me to play. Probably one of the easiest songs we play, in my opinion. I also like playing Frozen because at times we play it so beautifully and I just love listening to it. My bottom 3 songs we play are Don't Stop Believing, Rubber Ducky, and Party Rock. I don't really like playing Don't Stop Believing because we don't get it quite yet. I think once we get it done more it will be good. I don't like Rubber Ducky that much because it's just boring. I know that we only play it during chuck a duck, but I honestly think it's the most boring song we play. Lastly, I don't like Party Rock because sometimes our tempo is a bit off and it messes me up greatly.
One song that I majorly improved on was Eye of the Tiger. The whole beginning for us(the first 5 measures or so), the tempo is fast and when I first started playing it, I couldn't get it. Now that this is my second year playing it, I can play that part beautifully. Sometimes I'm having a bad day and mess up like once, but that's about it.
If we could add any song to the list, I would have to pick Live While We're Young by One Direction and I'm not just saying that because they are my favorite group. I am saying it because that song is a song that I love to get pumped up to. It's such a fun song to listen to, and if we can pull it off, other people will love to listen to it too.
