The Day of Infamy was the day that the Japanese decided to attack Pearl Harbor. FDR gave an "infamy speech" the day after the attack. The speech was only a little over 7 minutes long, and FDR planned for that because he wanted it show more of a dramatic effect. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise that no one saw coming. The Japanese attack is what led the United States into World War II. The Japanese had planned the attack as a way to prevent the U.S from interfering something that had planned on Southeast Asia. Eight United States battleships were damaged in the attack, and four were sunk. USS Arizona was the only one not raised. 2,403 Americans were killed in the attack and 1,178 were injured. President FDR said in his speech that December 7, 1941 is "a date we will live in infamy". In the Tokyo trials, it was known as a war crime because the attack happened without them stating anything about of war of any sort.
